 The U.S. trade deficit widened by 3.7% in Dec. to $48.8B, surpassing economists' forecasts of $48.2B, while Nov.'s figures were revised to $47.1B from an initially reported $47.7B. U.S. imports advanced 1.3% to $227.6B in Dec., while exports edged up 0.7% to $178.8B.
