Of the $47 billion of Egyptian sovereign debt outstanding, foreigners own approximate 20%. The largest foreign holder by far is Franklin Templeton owning approximately $4.5 billion of mostly short-term Egyptian sovereign bonds.Over the last year, the dip in the U.S. Dollar has made buying high-yielding short-term Egyptian paper a good trade. Western Asset Management and Standish Mellon are other recent buyers of Egyptian debt. This report shows some of the larger foreign owners of these bonds.
